From the Director`s Desk

“Saptashri Gyanpeeth is an institution born of dreams. The school’s primary counterpart Toddlers’ Preparatory School has been around since 1968. With the vision and labor of Late Directress Mrs Lalita Pradhan, the school steadily grew in size and strength and in 1993 Saptashri was established as a full fledged Council certified institution. Since then, we have grown further in size and popularity over the years, a reflection of our high standing in the community and our outstanding achievements.Currently we have over 1500 pupils and nearly 110 teaching and ancillary staff. We as a school mainly cater to the local children of Kalimpong, however we do have a small percentage of students joining us from across the country, as well as internationally. “

Affiliation

Saptashri Gyanpeeth school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.

The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) is an examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, a private, non-governmental board of school education in India, for class 10, i.e., grade 10. It has been designed to provide an examination in a course of general education, in accordance with the recommendations of the New Education Policy 1986 (India), through the medium of English. It was affiliated to French Board of Examination before 1986.

Subjects

The subjects that are offered are divided into three groups. Group I includes Compulsory Subjects — English, History, Civics & Geography, and Indian Language, Group II which includes any two from Mathematics, Science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry) as separate subjects, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Agricultural Science, Commercial Studies, Technical Drawing, A Modern Foreign Language, A Classical Language and Economics, and Group III has any one from Computer Applications, Economic Applications, Commercial Applications, Art, Performing Arts, Home Science, Cookery, Fashion Designing, Physical Education, Technical Drawing Applications, Yoga, and Environmental Applications. All subjects have components of internal assessment, that are carried out by schools, on the basis of assignments/project work, practicals and coursework. There is 20% weightage for internal assessment in group I and II and 50% weightage for group III.

In subjects where there are more than one paper (e.g., Science), the marks obtained in the subject are calculated by taking the average of all the papers in the subject. Candidates appearing for the examination have to study six subjects, with one to three papers in each subject. For subject HC&G the paper 1 consists of History & Civics and paper 2 consists of Geography. Science consists of three papers each for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. This makes for a total of eight to eleven papers, depending on the subjects. SSC results are taken from best five of six subjects (out of which English marks is compulsory)

Procedure to calculate ICSE percentage

Under this section you will know how to calculate ICSE pecentage. There are 6 subjects in total. Out of six subjects take the marks of best of 5 including English (English marks cannot be excluded). Then add the marks of best five and divide the total with five.

Take for Example:

SubjectsMarks
English96
Hindi94
Mathematics100
HCG99
Science100
Computer100

The best 5 subjects will be taken as English, Mathematics, HCG, Computer, Science. If you add the marks of these subject you get 495. Then divide the total with 5 & you will get 99%

School Hostel

Saptashri School recognises Vidhya Boarding House for hostel facilities. It is an independently run establishment.

A home away from home, Vidhya Boarding House is where children build beautiful memories and lasting friendships. They are taught values and sense of independence to prepare them for life. VBH was established in the year 1983 with a handful of children and lots of love, today we nurture almost 100 children a year and have an alumni network of over 3000 spread across the globe. At VBH We understand the importance of work and play (look at what all work and no play did to Jack) and encourage child development through education and recreation. Hostel life is a life changing experience and we at VBH strive to enhance this experience for our kids by offering safe, homely and comfortable learning environment.

Examinations

The school has two sessions for Juniors.

  1. The first ends with the completion of Half Yearly Examination and
  2. the second with the Annual Examination. Two tests for Juniors.

For seniors (7 to 2) three term Examinations in May, August and November. Promotion depends on the cumulative assessment of pupils throughout the whole year and not on the basis of their achievement in any particular examination. Once the promotion is decided collectively by the members of the staff in their meeting, their verdict is to be construed as final and re-examination or re-consideration is out of the question. A periodical class test will be done after the completion of each lesson; however, this implies only for class VII upwards.
